Swimming at Carcavelos Beach

Hello Open Water Swimming & Beach going enthusiasts!

Event: Carcavelos Beach sea swim, walk or chill. If you don’t fancy swimming, you’re welcome to come for a barefoot walk along the beach or relax on the sand.

RSVPs: Open at 8:00pm on the Saturday before the event. We will limit numbers for this meetup to 10 to maximise safety and ease of coordination. If your plans change and you can not come, change your RSVP to allow others to join.

Suggested equipment:
- Swimsuit.
- Wetsuit (available for purchase at Aqualoja [https://goo.gl/maps/rTb63ujz8chZaPAk9] or Decathlon).
- Plastic bag (for hands and feet when putting on wetsuit, to avoid tears).
- Flotation buoy (for visibility and belongings. We recommend the ‘Buddyswim Buoy With Removable Backpack Straps 28L’ [https://www.deporvillage.net/orange-buddyswim-drybag-buoy-orange], which Aqualoja sells, for its double use as a backpack and buoy, and its good size, so that it fits all your belongings and gives the option to swim to another beach).
- Goggles.

- Lightweight travel towel.
- Warm clothes (lightweight fleece, hat, buff and gloves for afterwards).

Start Time: Meet on Carcavelos train station platform at 09:31, walk to the beach together, change into wetsuits there, and aim to start swimming at 10:00am.

End Time: 11:00am.

Conditions: Usually calm, with waves less than 1 metre, and no strong currents.

Pace: Whatever you’re comfortable with; we will try to stay as a group.

Route: Start at the western end of Carcavelos Beach, swim to the east end and back, and repeat if keen.

Car parking: If arriving by car, there is a car park at the western end of Carcavelos Beach (https://goo.gl/maps/CNoefWuUJfArPCMHA). We can meet you here at around 09:45.

Toilets & shower: There should be public toilets on the beach, next to Carcavelos Surf School, as well as showers. There are lots of cafes near the beach too.
