Love: Past, Present, and Future – From Biology to the Heart
Love: Past, Present, and Future – From Biology to the Heart
**Love: Past, Present, and Future – From Biology to the Heart** Love is one of the most intimate and transformative experiences of being alive. It can bring joy or heartbreak, clarity or confusion, fleeting moments or lifelong bonds. While deeply personal, love is also universal—woven into our biology, reflected in human culture, mirrored in the animal kingdom, and explored through spiritual and moral traditions. At its core, love is biological. Our brains are wired for connection: dopamine sparks desire, oxytocin fosters attachment. These chemical signals guide attraction, bonding, and social cohesion. Yet love is far more than biology. Across spiritual traditions, love is celebrated as sacred and transformative, guiding behavior, inspiring compassion, and creating meaning beyond the self. Devotion, care, and empathy show how love can connect individuals, communities, and the wider world. Love is not unique to humans. Animals form bonds, care for their young, and display loyalty and attachment. From swans that mate for life to nurturing communities of elephants and dolphins, the natural world reminds us that connection is both instinctive and profound. In modern times, love is evolving. Romantic partnerships, friendships, and self-love are increasingly shaped by digital technology, social change, and global mobility. Love today can cross continents in an instant, flourish in virtual spaces, or challenge traditional norms—emphasizing choice, equality, emotional fulfillment, and authenticity. Looking ahead, love may take forms we can barely imagine. Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and bioengineering could reshape intimacy, attachment, and connection. Future relationships might include AI companions, hybrid human-digital bonds, or entirely new ways of caring for others—prompting us to rethink what it means to love. This session will explore love as a phenomenon that spans biology, psychology, society, spirituality, the animal kingdom, and emerging futures. We will reflect on how love is felt, expressed, and understood—personally and collectively—and how it shapes identity, behavior, and meaning in life. **We will focus on:** * Cultural, historical, and spiritual perspectives on love * The biology of attraction, bonding, and attachment * Psychology: intimacy, emotional bonds, and human connection * Lessons from the animal kingdom: care, loyalty, and partnership * Modern love: technology, social change, and evolving norms * The future of love: AI, virtual relationships, and new possibilities * Personal dimensions: vulnerability, growth, heartbreak, and self-love * Expanding who can love freely and how we practice love today Join us for an intimate and reflective conversation on love—in all its forms, from brain chemistry to spiritual and moral traditions, from animal bonds to digital possibilities. Together, we’ll explore how love shapes life today and what it might become tomorrow. 📅 **Event Details** 🗓️ **Date:** Saturday, 04 April 2026 ⏰ **Time:** 14:00 📍 **Location:** Hardenbergstraße 10, 10623 Berlin 📱 **WhatsApp:** For prep materials and directions [Group Chat](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Ba8ZAaH2Yuk6FGmD3LLO7H)

Fairytale Forest: Hike through the mystical landscape of Briesetal
***Discover the mystical sunken birch forest, the valley and its unspoilt nature while hiking along river Briese.*** **HOW DO I JOIN THIS EVENT?** Click on link below to get complete info and to sign up for this event by getting your ticket. [https://urbanaturetravel.com/event/briesetal-fairytale-forest-4apr2026](https://urbanaturetravel.com/event/briesetal-fairytale-forest-4apr2026) **SPECIAL OFFER FOR NEW USERS** * 10% New User Discount using promo code: **MEETUP10** * Valid for this trip or any other trips available on our website. **WHY GO?** The Briesetal is one of Brandenburgs most scenic valleys, formed by river Briese. The quiet nature preservation area is home to mischievous beavers whose dams created a sunken birch forest. The valley is still dominated by unspoilt nature, seemingly untouched by humans. It's only a 40 minute train ride north of Berlin, making it the perfect day trip getaway from the city's hustling. Following the meandering river we traverse the mystical forest, walk on wooden planks through moors and marshes and explore natural habitats and endemic wildlife. On this hike, immerse yourself into nature’s wonder! Have you ever observed the tiny details of the outdoors? Such as the intricate veins on the back of a leaf? Or the delicate edges of flowers’ petals? Or the movement of a cheeky squirrel? On this walk, you will have the chance to truly connect with the natural world around you. No experience or preparation is needed, just your curiosity. You will be guided through every step of the way. **TRIP DETAILS** **Distance:** 13 km walking, 7 hours from start to closing, multiple break times **Hiking Difficulty:** Easy – walking on marked paths / dirt roads, mostly flat terrain, relaxed pace **Kid Friendly:** Yes **Pet Friendly:** Yes **What is Included?** * Community leader & guide for the entire duration. * Guided hike * Access to google photos album dedicated for this trip for sharing all your amazing pics & videos from the trip. * Access to a WhatsApp group for confirmed participants. **Note:** Please contact us immediately if you do not have WhatsApp & we can make alternate arrangements from our end to ensure you do not miss out on any communication. **Future Trip Updates:** Please do join our WhatsApp/Telegram channel for updates about our future trips including possible early bird discounts, contests etc. 1. Life-drawing / Aktzeicnen
Life-drawing / Aktzeicnen
Life-drawing on the first and third Saturday morning in the month held in my studio in the Rhinower Str 10. One hour of short poses ( the length of a song from an eclectic playlist) a 20 minute or so break while we look at the work and compare techniques and exchange tips on materials while drinking a well-earned tea or coffee with a freshly-baked muffin, then another hour of drawing. In the second half, for those who wish I also roll up a plate with ink to monoprint direct from the model. You will go home with a lot of drawings and prints, new ideas and some new techniques. A perfect way to kick off the weekend!! Cost 30€. Bring your own drawing materials. I supply ink, palettes, water jars and rags. Beginners very welcome!!

Silent Reading / Creating Club at W66 (Saturday) [Luma to RSVP]
RSVP on Luma: [https://luma.com/ou3ks02q?utm_source=Meetup](https://luma.com/ou3ks02q?utm_source=Meetup) Silent Reading / Creating Club is a gathering for people who enjoy focusing together in public. Bring a book, a notebook, a sketchpad, knitting needles, whatever you’d like to spend a quiet hour doing. All projects and all participants are welcome. This year is about creating more, quietly, consistently, and imperfectly. We're fostering an environment that supports that. If you’re building something of your own, you’re especially welcome here. We’re building a community of readers and creators who value depth, presence, and shared silence. The magic isn’t just in the quiet hour — it’s in the people who return and make it feel like a familiar room. (Please RSVP “yes” only if you can make it, so we can save a seat for you and others on the waitlist.) This quiet ritual unfolds at **W66 Café**. There’s no entrance fee, but please order at least one item from the café and don’t bring outside drinks 🙂 No assignments, expectations, or pressure. Just a shared hour of intentional silence, followed by the opportunity for good conversation. 🕰 Our Agenda **10:30 – 11:00** Arrivals, ordering drinks/food, light social time **11:00 – 12:00** The Great Quiet Hour (Read. Write. Sketch. Code. Think. Sit.) **12:00 – 12:30** Optional socializing — share what you were reading or creating, or simply continue in quiet focus. ## **🏡 House Guidelines** To keep this space calm and welcoming for everyone: • Silence during the focus hour (no calls or conversations) • Put cellphones on silent mode • If using technology, please avoid meetings or audio (headphones please!) • Arrive before 11:00 if possible to minimize disruptions

\*\*\*\*\*\* ***For address and more details see the website www.pausify.org*** \*\*\*\*\*\* **Event Info:** Events happen every Sat and Sun at 11 AM. Bring along your **current book to read** (or something **creative** to work on ) and join us for this mix of a shared focus time + discussion. \- 11:00\-11:30 \- Meet & greet \- 11:30\-12:30 \- Silent focus time \- 12:30 \- Discussion of books/ projects over coffee Afterwards, join for lunch if you'd like (optional). **Drinks & snacks are included** ☕️ * **To reserve your place, a ticket (€9,90/event) or a community pass (only €19,90/MONTH) [from the website](https://pausify.org/) *www.pausify.org* is required** * **Attendance here doesn’t show all sign-ups from other platforms. We usually have about 50 to 100 people at each event.** ***FAQ: Why does it cost money if I bring my own project?*** Because we rent a beautiful, central space for every event. Ever thought your monthly apartment rent was too high? Well, multiply that – that’s what commercial spaces in big cities like Berlin cost *per hour*. Of course, if all you want is just some quiet time, your home or a library is perfect. But if you’d like to focus & connect with others in an inspiring space – with drinks, snacks included – that’s what your ticket helps to cover. See pics from our events below - and on our Instagram: **[@Pausify (Co-Reading Space)](https://www.instagram.com/pausify_org/) ☕️** **[Pausify Co-Reading Space Website](https://pausify.org/) www.pausify.org** For questions, please contact us over [Website ](https://pausify.org/) www.pausify.org as this platform can have issues. Havel Heights: Hilly forest hike to Berlin’s best viewpoints
***Scenic 14 km hike in Grunewald: climb Grunewald Tower, follow Havel forest trails, and end at Drachenberg with panoramic views over Berlin.*** ### **HOW DO I JOIN THIS EVENT?** Click on link below to get complete info and to sign up for this event by getting your ticket. [https://urbanaturetravel.com/event/havel-heights-viewpoints-5apr2026](https://urbanaturetravel.com/event/havel-heights-viewpoints-5apr2026) ### **SPECIAL OFFER FOR NEW USERS** * 10% New User Discount using promo code: **MEETUP10** * Valid for this trip or any other trips available on our website. ### **WHY GO?** Berlin is often thought of as a flat city, but Grunewald hides a surprising landscape of wooded hills and sweeping viewpoints. This hike follows sandy woodland trails and quiet paths along the Havel River, gradually climbing through the forest to reach some of Berlin’s best vantage points. We’ll climb the steps of the historic Grunewaldturm before stopping for a relaxed break at Kaisergarten am Grunewaldturm, a traditional beer garden overlooking the river. From there, we continue through the forest and up to the summit of Drachenberg, where wide views open out across the Grunewald and the distant Berlin skyline. It’s a chance to leave the busy streets behind, enjoy some fresh forest air, and spend the day exploring one of Berlin’s most beautiful landscapes with a group of curious explorers. ### **WHAT ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS?** **Grunewald:** Berlin’s largest forest, filled with sandy trails, glacial hills, and quiet lakes. A favourite escape for those looking for nature just outside the city. **Havel River:** One of the major rivers of the Berlin-Brandenburg region. Here the river widens into large lakes and peaceful bays surrounded by forest. **Grunewaldturm:** Built in 1899, this historic observation tower rises above the forest overlooking the Havel. Climb the steps to enjoy wide views over the lakes, woodland, and the distant Berlin skyline. **Kaisergarten am Grunewaldturm:** A classic German beer garden beside the tower. With views across the river, it’s the perfect place for a relaxed break, a drink, or a snack. **Drachenberg:** One of Berlin’s best viewpoints. From the top you’ll see a sweeping panorama across the Grunewald, Teufelsberg, and the Berlin skyline. We’ll aim to reach the summit in the early evening, with the chance of catching sunset — a memorable way to finish the hike. ### **WHAT IS THE PLAN?** * **10:00 AM-Option A: Meeting in Alexanderplatz S Bahn Station:** Meet at Alexanderplatz station and take the S Bahn to Nikolassee Station. * **11:30 AM-Option B: Meeting in Nikolassee S Bahn Station**: Arrive at Nikolassee station and kick-off with brief introductions before starting our hike into Grunewald Forest * **12:30 PM-Scenic Hike Along the Havel:** Continue hiking the hilly forest trails along the Havel, taking breaks as desired at any of the numerous benches with beautiful lake views. * **03:30 PM-Lunch Break at Grunewaldturm Biergarten:** Arrive at the Kaisergarten am Grunewaldturm Biergarten for a well-deserved lunch and climb the Grunewaldturm * **05:00 PM-Hike Towards Teufelsberg & Drachenberg:** Continue hiking through the peaceful Grunewald Forest and over Teufelsberg towards Drachenberg * **07:15 PM-Sunset Views from Drachenberg:** Reach the top of Drachenberg and take a break to soak up the panoramic views and sunset ### **WHAT IS INCLUDED?** * Community leader & guide for the entire duration * Access to Google photos album dedicated for this trip for sharing all your amazing pics & videos from the trip. * Access to a WhatsApp group for confirmed participants. ### **OPTIONAL ADD-ONS:** * Entry to the Grunewaldturm viewing platform is optional. The "competitive court" is for higher-level 2v2 play with beach rules. Be sure to wear suitable sports clothing and perhaps bring a drink. There are no facilities such as changing rooms and showers in the park. A nearby public toilet is also available, but it might be closed, dirty, or not have toilet paper. **Location**: We play in the narrow clearing, located between the two paths in the center of Hasenheide park, on the southern side. Updates will be posted in the WhatsApp group, which you can join via [https://tinyurl.com/ParkVolley](https://tinyurl.com/ParkVolley) **RSVP**: Put yourself on the waitlist, even if other people are already on there. The waitlist is not chronological, so even if there are 30 people on there, you still have a chance! If you get a spot, you will be moved to the attending list and notified by Meetup. This is a free event with limited space. **If you can't make it, promptly update your RSVP to NO** so others can take your place. You need to be on the attendee list to attend; **being on the waitlist is not sufficient**. Do not bring friends that are not on the attendee list. **Showing up without having a valid RSVP will get you banned**. **Safety**: Mind the terrain. The grass might be uneven and contain items such as bottle caps. It is not suitable for diving or playing like on a beach. Be careful not to twist your ankle. CBusData: The Fellowship of the Star Schema: Transforming OLTP Data for Power BI
The Fellowship of the Star Schema: Transforming OLTP Data for Power BI One does not simply build reports on OLTP data. Join us on an epic journey from the depths of raw, normalized tables to the shining halls of a well-modeled star schema fit for Power BI greatness. We will demystify the differences between OLTP and OLAP, walk through star schema vs snowflake (and why Power BI has a clear favorite), and show you the compression differences between normalized and columnar storage that will make you never look at an OLTP model the same way again. We will cover the different types of dimensions, when to use them, and how to handle Slowly Changing Dimensions without losing your mind. You will leave knowing exactly how to identify a bad model, how to convert OLTP data into a clean star schema, and how to forge relationships that rule them all. Whether you are a data wizard, a curious hobbit, or somewhere in between, your models will never be the same.

Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup (2nd Tues)
Jimmy V's Grill & Pub in Grandview Heights. You are responsible for your own meal/drinks. We usually don't have any agenda other than eat, drink and talk. :) If the weather is nice we will be on the back patio, otherwise we are in the cigar room. This group has been meeting every Tuesday evening for over a decade. Many attendees do not RSVP on meetup. Please don't let the small number here discourage you. Anyone/everyone is welcome to come. We'd love to have you join us. COTA bus #5 comes to W. 5th and Wyandotte Rd. And it's a minute walk to the restaurant. *** Did you know that there are atheists everywhere?!?! You may not know it, but we are! We're in your schools, diners, police force, military, government, and some are even still in your churches! So come and join us and meet other local atheists, along with agnostics, heathens, humanists, skeptics, and anyone else who's 'hell bound'! Vision: a Central Ohio that accepts atheism as a viable alternative in all areas of public and private life. Mission: grow, support, and provide community for atheists in Central Ohio. Social meetings held most Tuesdays at a local pub/restaurant at 7:00 PM (and often into the wee hours). Attendees call themselves agnostics, skeptics, humanists, non-theists, deists or even theists. All attendees are welcome but should support our vision. Atheists of Columbus (AoC) is part of Omnipresent Atheists (OA). AoC members are invited to join this OA meetup and/or OA Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/omnipresentatheists/ ) but are free to continue conversations on the AoC Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/columbusatheists/ ). AoC was founded in 2012 as a networking, social group for Central Ohio area humanists, skeptics, atheists, agnostics, nonbelievers, freethinkers, and the curious. It was a member of Columbus CoR and held weekly meetings, mostly on Fridays, for several years but then operated as an online only group for some time. In November 2018, Omnipresent Atheists (OA), a group that routinely meets on Tuesdays, invited AoC to merge. Omnipresent Atheists is a member of the Columbus Coalition of Reason (ColumbusCoR.org). Did you know that there are atheists everywhere?!?!
