ABOUT THIS INNER BALANCE MEDITATION SERIES: Every third Tuesday of the month, Ellen (Radha) offers a gentle, guided healing meditation. The sessions often begin with simple upper body (sitting) stretches, then move into awareness of breath, internal senses and finally, guided meditation. We are led into a space that feels somewhere been here and not here... connecting us to our pre-conscious and subconscious states. With her gentle voice and intentional words, Ellen helps us tap into our individual capacities for healing and compassion. Each session unfolds organically, connecting us intimately with ourselves. This provides an internal sense of emotional safety, and combined with the peaceful, accepting group energy results in an experience of deep restoration. Ellen (Radha) Is a licensed psychotherapist and a seasoned meditation instructor. She has studied and immersed herself in a wide range of spiritual teachings, practices and communities throughout the course of her life. There is no cost. Medicine Buddha Puja Practice
Medicine Buddha Puja, meaning a special chanted prayer session. All are welcome to attend, and we welcome practitioners to join in this wonderful, traditional healing and purification practice we chant in Tibetan. Chanting is in Tibetan with English and transliteration text provided. Join in the chanting, attend quietly as a blessing, or do your own practice during the pujas. Participation is voluntary and open to all. This Mahayana/Vajrayana puja practice includes prayers requested by friends and relatives for those who are experiencing difficulties in life, are ill or have died; you are invited to add your personal dedications during the prayers. These practices develop and enrich an attitude of healing the body and mind and cultivating an attitude of loving-kindness and compassion for all beings without exception. Practice in person or on zoom. RSVP to see zoom link. The sadhana or prayer is chanted in Tibetan with English translation in the text. Start the new day with community meditation over Zoom on Mondays and Fridays, from 8-9am, followed by 30 minutes-ish of contemplative discussion. Dharma Wednesdays is an on-going community exploration of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. Taken from different translations, one or two Sutras are presented each week, many addressing current events and others shedding light on navigating the spiritual path. Each class includes discussion, meditation or visualization, and connection with like-minded souls. No previous experience is necessary. Topics include the 8 Limbed Path, Kriya Yoga, meditation methods, karma, ignorance, discernment and the promise that future suffering can be avoided. This meditation is done in 4 stages of 15 minutes each. The first 3 stages have music, the last stage is in silence. Keep your eyes closed for most of the meditation 1\. stage: Stand with legs shoulder width apart and lightly bent knees. Let a shaking arise from the feet upwards and include the whole body. 2\. stage Dancing, let your body move as it wishes. 3\. stage Standing or sitting, be still, no movements and listen. 4\. stage Laying down on your back relax and watch with eyes closed No prior experience needed - Everyone is welcome. Experience not necessary. Those of any faith or lack thereof are welcome. All that is required is an open mind to learn how to promote wellness, happiness, love, and peace to oneself and all sentient beings. (How you're doing.) -->Silent meditation, seated on cushion, chair, or one of the pews. -->Dharma talk from either Thay Kozen or one of five other teachers. (Buddhist teaching on how to alleviate suffering and promote happiness and peace.) -->Metta practice. (Loving kindness.) -->Sutra recitation and discussion. THAY KOZEN The service is lead by Venerable Thich Minh Tinh (Thay Kozen). Thich Minh Tinh has been transmitted in the Vietnamese Rinzai Zen line of Thich Thien An and Thich An Giao. In addition he has studied in Japan with Nanrei Kabori Roshi, then in the US with Soyu Mastsuoka Roshi, then in Japan with Doki Suda Roshi. Matsuoka Roshi later transmitted Kozen after a period of time as the Long Beach Zen Center’s administrative assistant. It is under Matsuoka Roshi’s and Thich An Giao’s request that Kozen teaches and maintains a temple and teaches . Saito Roshi from Japan, has been a mentor and dear friend and teacher. Saito Roshi and Kozen were both student priests over 40 years ago in Southern Japan. They worked and studied together at a large temple.
