The Psychology of Trauma

Details
Trauma has been somewhat of a buzzword in recent times and we welcome that the conversation has been branching out from the ivory towers of psychology and psychiatry into the minds of the wider population. Some argue that most people have experienced some sort of trauma in their lives, from complex ongoing traumatic experiences such as sexual abuse, bullying or domestic violence, to sudden events such as losing a loved one, getting fired or, arguably, even a piece of harsh criticism by a friend or manager. Trauma is a broad field of study and it can, and often does, affect a whole range of our behaviours, thoughts, feelings, and our physical wellbeing. We will be talking today about trauma with a panel of coaches and therapists who work with, heal or support people to manage trauma, so that we may understand it better and learn how we may help ourselves and others.
We'll be facilitating this session carefully as we are aware that trauma affects many of us and some may find it difficult to listen to. That said, we hope you know Pub Psychology as a warm and informal space, where everybody is welcome and where we value talking to each other about such important issues through the eyes of both science and our own experience.
ABOUT OUR PANEL:
KATE BRASSINGTON is a Coaching Psychologist (working towards BPS registration and Chartership) and ICF-accredited Professional Certified Coach who specialises in therapeutic 1:1 trauma-informed coaching.
Why? To help people ease suffering and get the fun back!
She uses a range of no-talk no-touch approaches from the fields of body-oriented coaching, and Internal Family Systems inspired coaching, alongside creative meditation, to help people clarify what really matters to them, and make lasting changes to match.
LIAM FARQUHAR is a legal psychedelic guide, psychedelic integration specialist, and men’s group work facilitator. He also does therapeutic coaching work, where he takes a holistic and trauma-informed approach, using two increasingly popular and powerful trauma-informed therapeutic models that are quite radically different to conventional talk therapy: Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems.

Her work involves helping those who have experienced a highly stressful life event to live more consciously.
