St. James's Park Victorian Pubs
Details
7.30 - The Feathers, 18-20 Broadway, SW1H 0BH
8.45 - Grafton Arms, 2 Strutton Ground, SW1P 2HP
10.00 - The Albert, 52 Victoria Street, SW1H 0NP
Our first pub, The Feathers, 18-20 Broadway, SW1H 0BH - http://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/thefeatherswestminsterlondon/ - is late Victorian and takes its name from the heraldic badge of the Prince of Wales.
The nearest underground station is St. James's Park (Circle and District lines). Take the Petty France exit (which may well be the only one open when we get there), turn right and then, after about 50 yards, turn right again into Broadway and you'll see the pub just to the right of the Conrad Hotel. Parts of the Circle and District lines are closed on this date, but the stretch that serves St. James's Park is operating normally.
The plan is to move on to the Grafton Arms, 2 Strutton Ground, SW1P 2HP - https://www.greeneking-pubs.co.uk/pubs/greater-london/grafton-arms/ - at around 8.45 and then The Albert, 52 Victoria Street, SW1H 0NP - https://www.greeneking-pubs.co.uk/pubs/greater-london/albert/ - at around 10.00.
The Grafton Arms, which dates from the mid-nineteenth century, is probably best known for being where Jimmy Grafton and the Goons wrote scripts for the Goon Show. The Albert, an ornate, listed, mid-Victorian pub is apparently the only building on Victoria Street to have survived the war and is named after the Prince Consort who had died in 1861, aged just 42.
As ever, we may do things differently on the night. Please take a note of my number - 07761-816862 - so that you can phone me if you can't find us (but no texts or messaging please).
Please sign up as soon as possible if (but only if) you fully intend to attend and cancel promptly if your plans change so we don't end up with no-shows when other people are on a waitlist.
