Sanket Sudake, Principal Software Engineer, Improving
Talk:
Building Event-Driven Serverless Applications with Fission and Kafka
Abstract:
Fission is an open-source, serverless platform built on top of Kubernetes. It allows developers to create and deploy functions quickly without worrying about the underlying infrastructure.Fission has integration with Messageing queues like Kafka, which enables event-driven architectures and real-time data processing.
Fission user also use Kafka as an event source to trigger functions based on messages published to Kafka topics and build complex workflows. This talk will cover the following topics:
- Overview of Fission and its architecture
- Key features and benefits of using Fission
- Deep dive into Kafka integration
- A Quick demo of Fission with Kafka
- Real-world use cases and examples
Bio:
Sanket Sudake is a Principal Software Engineer at Improving. He is a passionate engineer with expertise in cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, and networking. Sanket is an active contributor to various open-source projects and enjoys sharing knowledge with the community through technical talks and blog posts.

Unmesh Joshi, Principal Consultant, Thoughtworks
Talk:
Understanding Kafka Source Code: A Walkthrough of Patterns of Distributed Systems
Abstract:
Apache Kafka is widely used, yet its internal design is often treated as a black box—understood through APIs, configurations, and operational guides rather than through its actual implementation. This talk takes a different approach: we will read Kafka’s source code directly and use it as a concrete lens to understand fundamental patterns of distributed systems.
Bio:
Unmesh is a seasoned technology leader with 24 years of industry experience. As an ardent enthusiast of software architecture, he firmly believes that today's tech landscape requires a profound understanding of distributed systems principles. His years of experience have helped him become proficient in diverse technologies and platforms, including Scala, Akka, Kafka, Cassandra, Kubernetes, Docker and Cloud Services.
Unmesh's book, Patterns of Distributed Systems forms an essential catalog of patterns aimed at enhancing comprehension, communication and education on distributed system design.
