Talk:
Evolving Kafka: Introducing KRaft for Modern Metadata Management

Abstract:
The focus is on the evolution of Apache Kafka. The core of the discussion is the introduction of KRaft (Kafka Raft Metadata mode), a new mode that marks a departure from the traditional ZooKeeper-based metadata management in Kafka. KRaft aims to simplify Kafka's architecture by removing the dependency on ZooKeeper, a distributed coordination service that Kafka has historically used for managing cluster metadata. This shift is motivated by the desire to streamline operations, reduce operational complexity, and improve scalability and reliability. The talk delves into how KRaft operates, its benefits, and the implications for Kafka's performance and ease of use.
