ACTION ALERT: New Puppy Store in Southfield (Ripoff Reports!!!!)

From: Pam

Meetup Members,

Last month we learned a new puppy store is planning to open in Southfield just down the road for a homeless animal shelter!

Woof Woof Puppies & Boutique
29555 Northwestern Hwy., Suite 222
Southfield, Mi 48034

Although we are kicking off our campaign in Westland, we will make this store our number one priority. Please stay on stand-by this week to protest!

Here is what we know….

Fox 2 news just happened to run into the store’s electrician during a power outage piece late August. We are lucky to have been alerted that a new puppy store was getting ready to open soon!! We have had a chace to talk with the one of the owners and start our investigation.

The store’s owner appears to be Joanne Francis, yet the Certificate of Occupancy with the city is listed under Jeff and Anthony Curtis (relatives). Joanne has been selling online with her mother Karen Zakaria who both have RipOff reports filed. Here is one related to Joanne.

Karen & Joanne Zakaria "Woof Woof" Extension from KAREN ZAKARIA…her daughter JOANNE of Franklin, MI Franklin, Michigan

As you all know, we do not need a new puppy store and we will be committed to having her promote only homeless animals. Here is the letter I have sent.

Dear Joanne,

We hope that Woof Woof will join the ranks of many other pet supply stores across the nation by adopting a policy that would help end commercial breeding and fight pet overpopulation.

Please do your part by not selling puppies at your new store and take the Puppy Friendly Pet Store pledge an initiative led by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

Puppy Mill Awareness of Southeast Michigan’s worked with over 100 Michigan pet supply stores to sign them onto the Puppy Friendly Pet Store pledge. Unfortunately, some other stores have been reluctant to do so, and we then enacted a public campaign to educate the public about the stores’ puppy mill suppliers. Six area stores that sell puppies have closed after such campaigns were launched.

If you choose to sell puppies, my organization plans to conduct a public education campaign outside the store. We would like your pledge to be in writing to state that you plan to institute a humane business model whether you use the HSUS pledge form or a simple signed letter.
Please call me to discuss this request.
