What we’re about
Welcome to PXV Open Jam Musicians! This group is for anyone and everyone who loves music and wants to grow as a musician by playing with other people. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or are a seasoned pro, you’ll find a welcoming and supportive environment here. We believe in learning and improving through collaborative play and having fun while doing it!
We are all about creating a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere where players of all skill levels can connect.
Important Note: These are community jams, not instructor-led sessions. The goal is to play together, share music, and learn from each other in a relaxed environment. We encourage collaboration and helping each other out, but this isn't a class or lesson.
Jam Format, important details & what to expect:
- Format: A signup sheet will be used to pick song leaders. The song leader will introduce a tune, share the key, tempo, etc. If the song has solo opportunities, the song leader will ask who wants to solo and pass the solo around when the time comes. Everyone is encouraged to jump in and play along once the song starts!
- Equipment: We have a limited amount of equipment available: PA, mics, and occasionally an electric drum kit. Please bring your own instruments and amps as space on the PA is very limited. If you have extra cables, extension cords, or stands, those are greatly appreciated too! Singers and players of acoustic or non-traditional instruments are absolutely welcome. All sounds are good sounds!
- Song Requests & Preparation: Feel free to suggest songs in the meetup discussion! While we can't guarantee every song will be played, it helps us get a sense of what the group enjoys. It's helpful to have a basic understanding of the chords or melody of the songs being led, but we're happy to help you learn on the fly! We try to use Ultimate-Guitar or similar for looking up chord sheets.
- Level of Play: We welcome all skill levels! Don't be intimidated if you're a beginner. This is a safe space to practice and learn. We encourage experienced players to be mindful of those who are newer and to offer support.
- Volume: It's fun getting loud! We try to keep the group at a reasonable volume. Maintaining the proper volume is also the mark of a good musician. Players are expected to manage the volume of their instruments all at times and be courteous to those around them while playing. Some players may opt to use earplugs or other devices.
- Duration: Jams typically run for about 2 hours
- RSVP: Please RSVP so we can get a headcount and plan accordingly. We may need to limit attendance if space is tight.
We're excited to make music with you! Let's learn, grow, and have some fun! Remember the wisdom of Miles Davis: “Listen More” - being a good listener is just as important as playing your instrument.
