Meet and greet with Open-Source Science (OSSci)
sorry we had to change the location as the other Biergarten was closed
The world is facing many pressing challenges (e.g., climate change, transition to green energy, feeding the planet). Over the coming years, we will need more science, better science, and faster science in order to successfully address these issues. Open source is a proven model for collaboration and innovation. However, open source in science and academia is fraught with many problems, from lack of coordination to misaligned incentive structures and more. Open-Source Science (OSSci) is a new NumFOCUS initiative that aims to build a stronger foundation for open-source scientific software. OSSci connects scientists, OSS developers, and other stakeholders to share best practices, identify common pain points, and explore solutions together. Launched in July 2022, the three initial domain-specific focus areas include chemistry and material science, healthcare and life sciences, and climate and sustainability. Our “Map of Open-Source Science” (MOSS) project aims to build a new interface for scientists to help find the existing OSS tools they need and encourage collaboration with colleagues.
OSSci is in town for PackagingCon and would like to take the opportunity to meet with locals interested in open source in science. Join us for an informal get-together. Cheers!
we would update the location once we have a confirmation
