The Future of Religion in America: Data Analysis with Python and Pandas
Allen Downey
Olin College
For almost a century religion in the United States has defied gravity, or at least the Theory of Secularization, which asserts that as societies become more modern, they become less religious. So far the United States has defied all forecasts, so I would be a fool to join the line of researchers who have predicted the demise of religion in the U.S.
In this talk I predict the demise of religion in the U.S., using Python and Pandas to analyze data from the General Social Survey. This talk is accessible to people who know a little bit of Python and a little bit of statistics.
About the speaker:
Allen Downey is a professor of Computer Science at Olin College and the author of a series of free, open-source textbooks related to software and data science, including Think Python, Think Bayes, Think Complexity. His blog, Probably Overthinking It, features articles on Bayesian probability and statistics.
