About us
PyData Cornwall is the Cornwall chapter of the global PyData community. This is a group for anyone interested in combining the Python programming language with data. We cover all topics across data/AI engineering, data science and data analytics so come along and learn/network with like-minded folks across all levels of experience over pizza and drinks! The format is a couple of 30 min talks and a few 5 min lightning talks and we aim to have an in-person event every couple of months across the county.
PyData is an educational program of NumFOCUS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the United States. PyData provides a forum for the international community of users and developers of data analysis tools to share ideas and learn from each other. The global PyData network promotes discussion of best practices, new approaches, and emerging technologies for data management, processing, analytics, and visualization. PyData communities approach data science using many languages, including (but not limited to) Python, Julia, and R.
The PyData Code of Conduct governs this meetup. To discuss any issues or concerns relating to the code of conduct or the behaviour of anyone at a PyData meetup, please contact NumFOCUS Executive Director Leah Silen (+1 512-222-5449; leah@numfocus.org) or the group organizer.

PyData Cornwall - Meetup #4: The Data Engineering Edition
Flowmoco, 11 Trevena Terrace, Newquay TR7 1LJ, Newquay, GB📊 What’s the one thing that makes businesses function and gives AI the context necessary to provide the right answers? Data! This edition we’ll be diving into data engineering, the software engineering specialism that builds data pipelines, cleans up and prepares data for teams, systems and analytics. Our fourth PyData Cornwall meetup is on Thursday 7 May! We'd like to hear from the community about how you’re exploring and solving data engineering challenges. Tell us your story in 30 minutes, or 5 minutes. First time speakers are very welcome and we're happy to help you prepare or practice a talk.
This meetup's inaugural data engineering-themed edition features:
- Mapping the PyData Community: Geospatial Visualisation with Python, Web Scraping and Folium, by Senior developer advocate (and PyData London co-organiser!), Hugh Evans, who’s kindly taking the trip from London to share his project in person!
Still time yet to turn in a main talk and lightning talk, folks!
We're back at Flowmoco's Fin Room at their office in stunning Newquay, where you can join us to learn and talk about Python, data and AI by the seaside. Whether you're a seasoned data professional or just starting your journey, this is your chance to connect with fellow enthusiasts and hear real world stories with practical takeaways to expand your knowledge.
📯 Want to speak? 👉 Submit a talk here. If you have questions, best thing to do is jump on our Discord and say hi!

1️⃣ Mapping the PyData Community: Geospatial Visualisation with Python, Web Scraping and Folium — Hugh Evans , Senior Developer Advocate.
In this talk I'll be walking through my project building maps of the PyData community using data scraped from Meetup. Featuring fun data preparation, geocoding, and map making with Folium — plus a call to support your local PyData group. I'll also be digging into how to build scraping and analytics at scale with open-source data technologies. But the real fun begins when you productionise it: scheduling scrapes, handling failures gracefully, monitoring for drift, and turning a fun weekend project into something that actually keeps running without you babysitting it.
