PyData Cornwall - Meetup #2

Details

πŸ–οΈ Bookending the summer with a PyData Cornwall meetup on Thursday 11 September so please save the date! Thanks to Flowmoco for hosting us again at their stunning office by the bay in Newquay, where you can join us to learn about the latest in the world of Python, data and AI. Whether you're a seasoned data professional or just starting your journey, this is your chance to connect with fellow enthusiasts and hear real world stories with practical takeaways to expand your knowledge.

πŸ—£οΈ Please let us know if you'd like to give a 30 minute talk or a 5 minute lightning talk (we might mix this up if we get more lightning talk submissions). First time speakers are very welcome and we're happy to help you prepare or practice a talk.

πŸ’Έ As always, we welcome sponsors so please get in touch if you can introduce someone that would like to sponsor pizza or drinks for the community or host a future meetup (for a dedicated pitch and speaker slot).

πŸ€™ We look forward to seeing you for another fantastic evening!

Venue
Flowmoco, 11 Trevena Terrace, Newquay TR7 1LJ

Agenda
πŸ• Doors open at 6.45pm with drinks, talks start at 7:15pm, pizza arrives at some point and when talks finish we'll move to a nearby pub for drinks.

πŸ“― Want to speak? πŸ‘‰ Submit a talk here or send us a message.

πŸŽ™οΈ Main Talks (30 mins)

1️⃣ LaTeX for Scientific Writing: An Overview β€” Tariq Rashid.

LaTeX has been the preferred system for writing scientific and mathematical documents for many years, and today it is a key part of a data scientist's tools. This talk provides a brief history of LaTeX, an overview of the concepts, and live demos of some modern tools which have LaTeX integrated - from full document preparation systems, embedding in Python notebooks, to JavaScript libraries for use on the web.
The aim of the talk - which requires no expertise - is to give you enough understanding of LaTex concepts that you can more easily use it in future projects if the need arises.

⚑ Lightning Talks (5 mins)

1️⃣ How to Manage a Series A Startup's Cloud Infrastructure Using Python β€” Gaston Michel.

2️⃣ Flip the Script: Own Awkward & Feel Confident β€” Lorraine Williams.

3️⃣ PAWS and Start Analysing Wikipedia's Data in 5 Minutes β€” Thomas Arrow.
