Title: Blue pill, or red pill? Why not both!
In this talk, I want to go over what The Matrix got right, namely living in The Simulation does have many advantages (especially for data scientists). I will introduce the concept of data simulation and why it should play an integral role in the data science workflow. The early stages of a project revolve around understanding the underlying business or real world problem paired with exploratory data analysis (EDA) so we get a thorough understanding for what the problem is and what we have available to solve it. Typically, the following stages involve model building, testing, and validation before finally ending up at the deployment stage. This is where we want to use the information from our EDA to create a synthetic data set which closely mimics the real data. Why would we want to do this? How does this help with our model building? Do I always have to make “fake”data? Great questions! All answers will be revealed at PyData Lancaster!

We welcome everyone with an interest in all things data, from beginners to seasoned pros, whether you work in linguistics, journalism, eCommerce, physics, or anything in between. We're big fans of open source. Python and R are data science staples, but other languages and perspectives are more than welcome!
