A Friendly Introduction to Containers for Applications and AI Agents by Artem Kislovskiy (ARTEFACT)

A container is a standard unit of software that packages up code and all its dependencies so the application runs quickly and reliably from one computing environment to another.

Containers are widely used to run applications, services, and increasingly AI agents. But what is a container, really? What happens when you start one, and how does Linux isolate its processes, filesystems, networks, and resources?

In this friendly introduction, we will take a guided tour of the technologies that make containers work. You will learn how containers are built, how they communicate, and how Linux provides their isolation. We will also look at the security implications, not only what container security does, but why it works.

By the end of the talk, you will have a practical mental model of containers and a clearer understanding of what happens when you deploy an application or AI agent in one.

Written as a joke in 1999, the Zen of Python was mistaken for a style guide for twenty-five years. It was always a mindset document, and it has just become load-bearing.

Writing code got cheap. Understanding it, specifying it, and taking responsibility for it did not. We have patterns for structuring software; this talk asks what the equivalent patterns look like for the person doing the structuring — as the work shifts from author to editor, and vagueness becomes the most expensive habit you can have.

Two questions run underneath. What must you actually know yourself, and what can you safely delegate? And which decisions are genuinely yours — because some are cheap to reverse, and others quietly set the shape of the next two years.

By the end, you will have a clearer sense of which skills compound, which quietly depreciate, and how to keep growing when the easy path no longer teaches you anything. The tools turn over every eighteen months. The mindset compounds for thirty years.
