18th PyData Lisbon Meetup

18th PyData Lisbon Meetup

IDEA Spaces - São Sebastião, Av. António Augusto de Aguiar 122C, Lisboa, PT

Heya everyone,

We're excited to announce that the next PyData Lisbon Meetup is happening next week! We're returning to our beautiful venue at Idea Spaces São Sebastião to celebrate the beginning of spring. As usual, we'll have two presentations followed by pizza, drinks, and networking. Check the details below 👇

Build AI That Matters: Dependable AI Systems for Real-World Impact - João Galego (Critical Software)
Most AI projects don’t fail because the model is wrong, but because the surrounding system is fragile. As AI enters high-stakes areas like aviation, healthcare, and defense, the gap between benchmark performance and real-world reliability becomes critical. In this talk, we’ll discuss real-world challenges and practical solutions for building AI that can be trusted where it matters. Whether it's developing collision-avoidance systems for autonomous vehicles, radiology tools for early cancer detection, or predictive maintenance for power grids and rail networks, this talk will provide you with the tools to deploy AI that saves lives, operates confidently under uncertainty, and holds up when reality gets messy.

Building a Theatre Play with Live AI Actors - Ana Aubyn, Andreia Pereira, and José Pereira (Loka)
This session will pull back the curtain on how Loka built a system that brings Live AI Agents to the theatre stage — already running in a real Portuguese theatre! 🎭 We'll take you through the whole journey: from screenwriting & ideation, to collecting requirements from creative minds, to bending existing tech to a use case it was never meant to serve, to (accidentally) inventing a brand new job title along the way. To top it all off, we will be doing a live demo, acting the whole thing out. 🎤

Program:
18:00 - 18:30: Walk-in
18:30 - 19:15: “Build AI That Matters: Dependable AI Systems for Real-World Impact” by João Galego (Critical Software)
19:15 - 19:30: Quick Break
19:30 - 20:30: "Building a Theatre Play with Live AI Actors" - Ana Aubyn, Andreia Pereira, and José Pereira (Loka)
20:30 Onwards: Networking, Pizza and Drinks

Looking forward to seeing you,
Telmo @ Loka
