Main Talks
1️⃣ Cross-Functional Embedding: How to make Data Science work in interdisciplinary teams - Nick Jakobi

As Data Scientists we frequently find ourselves working directly with other roles: product owners, software engineers, ux designers and business people. Often this is as a core member of a cross-functional team working towards a common goal. But Data Science is different: it's not predictable, results depend on what we find, and timelines are uncertain. This can often cause tension, where managers struggle to coordinate and plan ahead and data scientists feel constrained and unable to follow where the data leads them. In this talk I will empathise with all sides and suggest practical solutions for how to give other team members and managers what they need, while giving yourself the time and room to succeed.

2️⃣Transformers for Tabular Data: State of the Art or Just Hype? - Antons Ruberts

I've written 3 articles about this topic on medium, so I'd like to synthesise them into a talk.
The basic structure is:
1. What are Transformers and how can they be used for Tabular data?
2. Evolution of Transformer architectures
3. Demo using TabTransformerTF package
4. Results and conclusions

1️⃣ Using public data to work out non-obvious insights - Paul Vriend

Using only data available to everyone and creative mathematical techniques we are able to accurately map the distribution of Spotify users listening behaviours

2️⃣ Renaming a sport - A beginners journey into data science - Emma Humphrey

Using manual data cleaning techniques and learning to use seaborn, Emma highlights the discoveries she made in her first data science project.

Logistics
Doors open at 6.30 pm (get there early as you have to sign-in via building security), talks start at 7 pm, drinks from 9 pm in the bar. We will have reduced capacity for this event but there will be plenty of people to discuss data science questions with!
