Main Talks

1. Contextual Precision: Unleashing Super Resolution with Transformer - Oguzhan Cagirir
Transformers have transformed super-resolution since the advent of Swin, by surpassing traditional CNNs in capturing contextual and semantic information across images. Unlike CNNs, which rely on local receptive fields, Transformers use self-attention to map and understand regions in an image holistically, allowing for the hallucination of details based on contextual cues.
In this talk, I will explore the mechanics of self-attention and its role in enhancing super-resolution tasks. I will also present my research on custom attention heads and activation functions, which led to the development of EnhanceFX VI, a model I created to advance perceptual quality in image reconstruction.

2. Facial Recognition Dates Homomorphic Encryption: A Love Story in Privacy - Sefik Serengil
In this talk, we’ll explore how Python libraries DeepFace and TenSEAL can work together to create a privacy-preserving facial recognition system.
By encrypting facial embeddings and performing computations on encrypted data, this solution ensures that sensitive information is secure—even in the cloud. The cloud can calculate encrypted distances between embeddings without ever accessing the private key or understanding the data, striking a perfect balance between functionality and privacy.
Whether you're curious about homomorphic encryption or building secure AI systems, this talk will guide you through practical implementations that safeguard sensitive biometric information.

âš¡ Lightning Talks
1. Web development with pyscript - Nasrin Pathan
PyScript is a framework that allows you to run Python code directly in the browser using HTML tags. The Pyodide project aims to bring Python's interactive scripting capabilities to web development. In this talk, I will be discussing the web development of PyScript over the last two years and the PyScript deployment on GitHub for the alpha and beta versions and the future research with the development. I will also be sharing the projects that I have tried and videos to refer to, as well as the dos and don’ts of the development.

2. Building a News Summariser on a Budget - Espoir Murhabazi
Learn how to build a fully fledged LLM application with limited resources.

Logistics
Doors open at 6.30 pm (get there early as you have to sign-in via building security), talks start at 7 pm, drinks from 9 pm in the bar. We will have reduced capacity for this event but there will be plenty of people to discuss data science questions with!
Please unRSVP in good time if you realise you can't make it. We're limited by building security on the number of attendees, so please free up your place for your fellow community members!
