TALKS
1. You skipped page 1: The pre-requisites to growing the data team
By Stéphane Burwash (Potloc)
Description of the talk : Most teams in the data world start as a 1-person army. Extraction, Transformation & Modeling, Analysis & Dashboarding; they can do it all! The flip side of the coin 🪙 - they must do it all.Hiring for this type of role can be exceedingly difficult because there is no one-size-fits-all solution. This also doesn't tackle the issue that most data practitioners are so swamped by their day-to-day operations that they do not have a clear vision of their global purpose within the company.Crafting a job description isn't a mere formality; it's the cornerstone of building a high-performing data team. This presentation offers a detailed roadmap to navigate the complexities of writing a compelling job description tailored to data practitioners. We'll also dive into the ideal data practitioner profile by identifying the key characteristics which are necessary to shine in the practice.
2. Introduction and Applications of Vision-Language Models
By Carlone Scott (UDEM/MILA)
Description of the talk: The intersection of vision and language has emerged as a pivotal area of research in artificial intelligence, driving significant advancements in how machines perceive and interact with the world. This talk will explore the cutting-edge developments in multimodal AI, focusing on how vision and language models are integrated to achieve more sophisticated and human-like understanding. We'll start with a brief introduction to Vision-Language Models (VLMs) and briefly cover core techniques such as image captioning, visual question answering, and visual storytelling. The talk will look at a few multimodal pre-trained models like CLIP and DALL-E and conclude by addressing some challenges associated with VLMs.
We’re excited to see you there 👋
