PyData @ Capgemini (Utrecht) - AI for Good and Overcoming Challenges with Robots

Details
Another month – but not just another meetup!
PyData Amsterdam is back again, but this time in Utrecht! Join us for our Utrecht edition on June 13th at 1800 and enjoy food, drinks, and excellent talks! The location is Capgemini’s office in Leidsche Rijn (Reykjavikplein 1, 3543 KA Utrecht). Our first speaker is Marijn Markus whose will talk about the ethical implications of data and AI - which is on everyone's mind today. Our next speaker Sten Goes, will speak about 'keeping things cool' by overcoming challenges with delta robots.

20:45 : Networking + Drinks
Talk : Data and AI for Good
"We need more Data for ethical dilemmas, not less."
Everyone questions the ethical implications of data & AI these days
But as Managing Data Scientist, Marijn prefers to approach ethical issues with data.
From the consequences of automating your data analytics pipeline using ChatGPT to exposing ethical issues such as wage inequality and burnouts, how we assist farmers in India and Africa to improve their crops and how we help the World Food Program feed the world better.
'Unbiased' algorithms do not exist. But 'unbiased' people don't exist either.
And it is up to us, as data professionals, to make the two support and enhance each other.
Speaker Bio : Marijn Markus
Marijn is AI Lead and Managing Data scientist at Capgemini. He has more than 7 years of experience in data science, from governments and open-source intelligence to NGOs. A social scientist by trade, Marijn combines ethics and psychology with quantitative methods and data to address some of the biggest issues facing our world today.
Talk 2: Keeping it cool: overcoming challenges when packaging ice cream with delta robots
Ever thought about expanding your software skills into realms other than web/app development or static data analysis, and plunging into the vibrant, intriguing world of robotics and real-time machinery? If that's the case, this talk will be perfect for you! We, at BluePrint Automation, create a vast range of high-tech packaging machines, primarily for the food industry. During this talk, we'll spotlight a unique machine that uses computer vision, scheduling algorithms and delta robots to package a flavour mix of ice cream. We'll start with a general overview of the machine, then delve deeper into the technical aspects of computer vision and scheduling algorithms. So, join us as we dive into the exciting intersection of software and machinery, and see how your software skills could help shape the future of packaging machines.
Speaker Bio: Sten Goes
Sten is employing his passion for software development and extensive experience in computer vision as a Software Engineer at BluePrint Automation. He holds a Master's degree in Applied Physics from the Delft University of Technology and has been in the field of computer vision for over 15 years. Part of his mission at BluePrint Automation, is to enrich their packaging machines with more computer vision. This improves their function, makes them more adaptable and simplifies their design by minimizing the number of required mechanical parts.
