Presentations

Chris Joyner (Artlist) - Information Theory in the Age of AI

Developed in the 1940s, information theory was created to solve a simple problem: How much data can we fit through a communication channel? The answers gave us the building blocks of the modern internet—from compression algorithms that let you stream Netflix and Spotify to error-correcting codes that ensure your emails arrive intact.

In this talk, I'll walk you through the origins of information theory, show how it fundamentally explains why compression algorithms work and relate it to the modern LLMs, like GPT/Claude/Gemini, that we have today.
