The Data Analyst Isn’t Disappearing, but the Job is Changing

Generative AI is increasingly capable of performing tasks that have traditionally been central to data analytics, from writing code and cleaning data to creating visualizations and generating insights. These advances raise important questions about how the role of the data analyst will change as AI becomes more integrated into analytics work.
In this talk, Dr. Cassie Collier, Assistant Professor of Computer Management and Information Systems at SIUE, will explore how AI is reshaping data analytics work, which tasks may be most affected, and what skills are likely to become more important in an AI-enabled workplace.
Drawing on published research with data analytics professionals and hiring managers, Cassie will discuss how organizations and analysts are responding to AI-led disruption, where human expertise remains critical, and how data professionals can prepare for an evolving profession. Attendees will also be encouraged to share their own experiences with AI in analytics, connecting the research findings with what is happening in practice.
