PyData TLV meetup #1

Details

This will be our first amazing PyData event in Israel! It will include two interesting lectures by industry experts, mingling and sharing :)

• 18:00 - 18:30 - Gathering, snacks, mingling

• 18:30 - 18:45 - Opening words

• 18:45 - 19:30 - First talk:

Shir Meir Lador, Lead data scientist at Bluevine, Fraud detection challenges and data skepticism

The world of data is fascinating as well as confusing. We spend our days training models, evaluating their performance on validation data and crossing our fingers our model learned the right patterns. A data scientist is required to always be skeptical with and of data.

Shir will present the story of a model which automatically approves factoring deals, the challenges in the model training, interpretation and evaluation and a cutting-edge framework for model explanations (LIME) that can help us open up the black box.

• 19:30 - 20:30 - Second talk:

Amitai Armon, Ph.D., chief data scientist for Intel’s Advanced Analytics group, Fast deep learning at your fingertips

Deep learning—the most significant innovation in data science in recent years—presents amazing improvements in the modeling results. However, most data scientists don’t yet use deep learning for several reasons: the relative complexity of customizing deep learning models for their own problems, challenges in installing and using the required frameworks, and low performance of open source deep learning frameworks on standard CPUs.

Amitai Armon will present a new, free software tool that enables the creation of deep learning models quickly and easily. The tool is based on existing deep learning frameworks and incorporates extensive optimizations that provide high performance on standard CPUs.

The talks will be held in English.
