Presentations summary:
Neural network based machine learning models are commonly used to solve challenging natural language processing (NLP) problems. In the first part of this lecture, we will take a look at large pre-trained language models and how to prompt them to generate specific outputs. We will show a practical application of this in the legal domain, using data form the European Court of Human Rights and the Swiss Federal Supreme Court. In the second part of the presentation we will focus on how to build production software components with machine learning models. We will cover various aspects of MLOps and also challenges around large neural network models.

- Martyna Miskowiec
Martyna Miskowiec is Senior Software Engineer at Thomson Reuters Labs in Zug, Switzerland. She graduated from AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow. She has been working as a software engineer generalist for more than 5 years, specializing in Java and Python. She is passionate about medical technologies and accessible design. - Danilo Tommasina
Danilo leads the software engineering organization in Europe for Thomson Reuters Labs, he started his career as a Software Engineer in 2000 and is a passionate technologist.
Over the years he had the opportunity to gain experience working within a few startups in the industrial and financial sectors, leading software engineering & system design efforts and leading engineering teams. After joining Thomson Reuters, Danilo has been in a few roles from managing globally distributed teams to performing hands-on engineering work and system design.
Lately his focus has been heavily in the scaling of the Thomson Reuters Labs engineering function both in terms of people as well as technology maturity. The goal is to serve our customers using modern and reliable capabilities based on AI & ML, where the labs engineering function works to accelerate and reduce the cost of transferring research work into product capabilities in an economically sustainable manner.
