Community Meet & Greet - Outdoor Park

Let's take advantage of the nice weather while it lasts and head to the park! We're planning to set up near the playground, bring picnic blankets and camping chairs if you have them (but no stress if not). We're also encouraging people to bring a small snack to share if they can, but this is absolutely not required for attendance.

Fall back in the case of bad weather will be our regular spot at ANU (if this happens, we'll post on this event and also send out an email through the mailing list).

Public transport can be a bit patchy in this area, so if transport is likely to be an issue for you please let us know and we'll see what we can arrange.

Do you want to connect with the Tech community in Canberra, have identified or presented as female ever in your life (or can bring someone who does) and are free on Sunday 11th May?

Maybe you're attempting to learn a new programming language? Take your first steps into the world of big data? Or just want to learn more about tech with other people who are in the same boat?

VENUE: Black Mountain Peninsula, Acton

Our goal is to foster a strong female tech community here in Canberra. We're realistic about the female tech experience being generally different from the majority experience and are here specifically to support this. We want to start a discussion around the challenges, interests, side-projects and exciting opportunities group members are facing in their careers and lives as they progress in their tech journeys. We'll facilitate a structured group discussion (see Lean Coffee, it's got unconference vibes). Don't worry if you don't know anyone yet, we're a friendly and welcoming bunch.

Kids/Families: we specifically want to include community members with family responsibilities so the event is child/carer friendly. You don't have to bring them, but if you do: we'll set up a space off to the side (in sight) where they're more than welcome to hang out. We're not providing supervision they're still in your care, but they are welcome!

Protecting the new/shy: we specifically want to protect those who are new/shy/junior and find that CoC guidelines are great for helping everyone learn and grow in to a robust, cohesive community. We're mostly a bit socially awkward and we expect everyone to be respectful and to be able to have healthy, mature conversations about the bounds we expect in the group. We stem from the Python community and use their fabulous CoC as a backstop: python.org/psf/conduct/

Male-humans: (bring your daughters/sisters/mothers/aunts/friends/etc!) our goal is to be inclusive and we understand that men may want to come. Male-humans are welcome so long as they bring at least one female-human-per-male-human so that we can be 100% sure the event will be at least 50% female ratio is preserved. It is very acceptable that this person is a child, as we advocate children being exposed to technical adult female role-models. Obviously we expect male attendees to be respectful of the goals of the group.
