Bayesian methods using PyMC3 and ArviZ - Part 1

Details

This is the first part of our two-part Bayesian methods using PyMC3 and ArviZ Series. You will get the most out of this workshop if you participate in both sessions.

Part 2 Meetup page: https://www.meetup.com/Pyladies-LA/events/265112557/

In this two-part talk, we'll cover applied Bayesian methods using PyMC3 and ArviZ. Bayesian methods are particularly powerful as they can include incorporation of prior beliefs, allow the statistician flexibility in the model definition, and of particular interest for the speaker, provide uncertainty estimates after inference.

This meetup is Part 1 of the 2-part series
In Part 1 (Oct 23rd), we'll use PyMC3 and ArviZ to estimate the most studied statistics problem ever, the coin flip, or "binomial model" in Bayesian Speak. Specifically well cover the syntax of the PyMC3 probabilistic programming language, how modern Bayesian libraries make estimations using Markov chain Monte Carlo, and interpretations of diagnostics and results using trace plots and posterior plots in ArviZ.

RECOMMENDED PRE-REQUISITES
Both sessions will be hands-on using PyMC3, ArviZ and Jupyter notebooks. You'll be writing code as much as I'm talking about code! If you intend to participate in the hands-on section, bring your laptop with a Python environment. Instructions for how to get set up will be sent out prior to the meetup.

We expect the attendees to be fairly familiar with Python and working with data. Due to limited seats, please only RSVP if you are really interested. And please set up your environment before coming to the event
