Your first open source contribution: start contributing to Django

We're very excited to announce PyLadies Zurich's first hands-on workshop!
Have you ever thought of contributing to a Python-based open source project? Maybe you've wanted to do this for years, but you didn't know how to get started? Then this workshop has you covered. Together, we will learn how to contribute to Django, the well-known Python web framework. We will focus on contributing code and documentation, but we will show you other ways to contribute, such as translations and event organizing, too.
During the workshop, we will set up our development environment by installing Django's development version and running Django's test suite. We will go through the git and GitHub workflows involved when working on a Django ticket. We will familiarize ourselves with Django's ticket system and learn strategies for finding a suitable ticket to work on.
By the end of the workshop, you will know how to start contributing code and documentation to Django, and you will know about Django's communication channels and where you can ask for help.
The workshop will take place in the reading room (Lesesaal) of Zentralbibliothek Zürich. The venue is wheelchair-accessible. Please contact us at zurich@pyladies.com if you need assistance or more information.

Prerequisites
- Familiarity with basic Python.
- A working development environment.
- Having worked with Django before would be helpful, but it's not mandatory. Here are some resources to get you started with Django:
