Python Atlanta Meetup

Details

The meeting starts at 7:30PM in the North Avenue room. Some of us get together before the meeting between 6:00 and 6:30 to have dinner and talk.

We have two excellent talks scheduled, including one from special guest and Django Software Foundation member, Trey Hunner!

## Talks

  1. Benjamen Meyer - Stack-in-a-Box
  2. Trey Hunner - Python Oddities Explained.

## About the Talks

  1. Stack-in-a-Box - In this talk, Benjamen will walk us through the creation of his open source project, StackInABox (https://stackinabox.readthedocs.io/en/latest/)

  2. A number of Python features often seem counter-intuitive at first glance, especially when moving from another programming language to Python. Often what at first seems like a bug, will later reveal itself to be a misunderstood feature.

During this talk we’ll look at a number of Python’s unique features and quirks and attempt to re-shape our mental models of Python to better match reality. By the end of this talk you’ll have a deeper understanding of Python’s rules behind objects, scope, and variables.

Warning: this talk will include many Python head scratchers so show up prepared to think on your feet!

## About Our Speakers:

  1. Benjamen Meyer is a software engineer at Rackspace.

  2. Trey Hunner helps casual and experienced Python programmers deepen their understanding of Python. He sends out one Python exercise every week through Python Morsels and he helps Python teams on-board new Python developers through on-site team training.

Trey is a member of the Django Software Foundation and a former director at the Python Software Foundation. He is a regular attendee of his local Python meetup group in San Diego.
