GRUNT! - Create a Python Fitness, Diet, or Contact...App

Details

--LEVEL--
Novice to Intermediate

--INTRO--
Hello Everyone - I've not done a good job managing this group, but it's 2021, and I'm giving it another shot.

Let's get together and build an app for fitness, diet, contact management, or something better.

--PROJECT GOAL--
Using python and SQLite, we will build an app where data is entered from a GUI, stored in a database, then retrieved using that GUI.

--PROJECT DESCRIPTION--
The app could be a contact app, a workout tracker, diet tracker, productivity tracker...the options are unlimited.

The project will involve:

  • python programming,
  • database connectivity
  • app building
  • GUI dev

--PROJECT LOGISTICS--
Usually, I would have us meet at Cross Campus, but with COVID on the rise again, that's not safe.

Plus, I got a new toy...

There's a collaboration tool called Reslash that allows all of us to share our screens and form groups by moving our icon around a screen (it will make sense when you see it).

I think this could be a cool way to pair program, quickly form a dev team, or just enjoy working in a group.

--PROJECT DATE/TIME--
So on the morning of Saturday, August 7th, from 10AM to 12PM, we will get together using my Reslash account: https://app.reslash.co/s/neuroxmarketing

Come a little early, come a little late, leave whenever...this is a no-stress Meetup.

--SO WE CAN HIT THE GROUND RUNNING--
Here are resources:

We will use this RealPython project as our framework:

This video is an excellent intro to SQLite:

--HOW TO PREP--

  • Read/watch all of the background material
  • Setup your virtual environment in your prototyper, text editor and/or IDE of choice
  • Install all of the needed packages and apps (e.g., SQLite browser)
  • If you have project ideas, post them in the meetings comments
