Details

Hi Everyone

For our August meetup we are excited to be collaborating with HER+Data MCR to host a series of talks on Python and Data .

HER+DataMCR is a community working to connect, inspire, support and empower the NW UK’s Women in Data through monthly meetups. The scope is intended to be broad to include as many women within STEM as possible while also maintaining a focus on the topic of data - we talk data science, analytics, research, visualisation, software, applications and shared experiences as women in data. Find out more on Meetup (https://meetup.com/HER-Data-MCR) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/herplusdatamcr).

Speakers

Dani Papamaximou - Jupyter Notebooks in Action
During this presentation Dani will go through a basic example of data analysis using jupyter notebook. Jupyter notebook is one of the favourite tools in data science, and this presentation will demonstrate why. There will be live coding, live errors, bad jokes, and everything that shall remain behind closed doors during development, giving you a rare opportunity to understand the challenges of the work of a data scientist.

About Dani

Dani has been providing advanced numerical solutions in the fields of civil engineering and data science for the last decade. She has two master degrees in engineering and she has spoken at pydata London and at Pycon UK. She is the django girls organiser for Birmingham. She enjoys plain foods -her favourite meal is spaghetti with butter.

Cheuk Ting Ho - Under and Dunder - Python secret functions

You may know dunder init (init), but how well do you know about other Python “magic” functions? Why are dunder functions not accessible? in this talk, I am going to show you the secrets of the Dunder functions and what purposes they have. Once the mystery is solved, we will see the beauty of those functions.

About Cheuk

After having a career in data science, Cheuk now brings her knowledge in data and passion for the tech community into TerminusDB as the developer relations lead. Cheuk constantly contributes to the open-source community by giving free tutorials on Twitch and organize sprints to encourage diversity contributions.

Kerry Parker - Data Analysis in Python with Pandas

Get started with Pandas by looking at the Palmer Penguin dataset. An introduction to data structures, how to read and write data and quick tips to inspect, better understand and clean data for more efficient data analysis.

About Kerry

Kerry is a Data Scientist at The Very Group. With a PhD in Particle Physics, she has always enjoyed working with data and solving problems and now mainly uses python for work and for her own passion projects. Kerry also co-organises TechNomads, a meetup group in Liverpool for people interested in learning about new technologies, sharing ideas and networking.

Hope to see you all there!
