๐ค SPUG Joins Spokane Go: Build Your Own AI Harness
Details
This month we're mixing things up!
Instead of our usual Spokane Python Users Group meetup, we'll be joining our friends from the Spokane Go Users Group for an exciting deep dive into one of the hottest topics in software development: building AI agents.
Ever wondered how tools like Codex or Claude Code actually work? Curious about what makes an AI "agent" more than just a chatbot? Whether you're a Python developer, Go developer, or simply AI-curious, this session will pull back the curtain on the building blocks behind modern AI coding assistants.
### What we'll cover
๐ค What is an AI harness?
Learn how AI-powered developer tools are put together and what components make them work.
๐ง What makes an agent an agent?
Explore how LLMs become capable assistants by combining reasoning with memory, tools, and workflows.
๐ ๏ธ Giving your agent superpowers
See how agents can safely interact with the filesystem to read and write files, and connect to the web to find up-to-date documentation and other information.
Whether you're thinking about building your own coding assistant, automating workflows, or just want a better understanding of the technology behind today's AI tools, this promises to be a fun and practical session.
As always, developers of all experience levels are welcome. Come learn something new, meet fellow local developers, and enjoy an evening with both the Python and Go communities!
Since your audience has been especially interested in AI coding tools recently, I think framing it as "pulling back the curtain on how Codex and Claude Code work" will resonate well while still accurately reflecting the talk's focus.
