The Joy of Jupyter Notebooks

Details
Moritz Beber will speak about the Jupyter notebook, a fantastic open source tool for creating commented, reproducible code documents that can be shared easily.
The presentation will start with a general introduction to the notebook format using the Python kernel, duh! This includes using the notebook as an advanced command line tool, preparing a report by including formatted text and inline figures, how to run notebooks non-interactively, and how to share them with others.
A second part will be devoted to the possibilities offered by the widgets system and its advantages for preparing reports that include interactive data exploration. If time permits, installation and setup of different kernels will be discussed as well.
Moritz Beber holds a PhD in bioinformatics, has contributed to many of the scientific Python tools, and is currently active in the digital refugee aid space as a member of http://metacollect.org (http://metacollect.org/).
