Data Science: Pandas and PyArrow

Details

Fresh from PyCon-US and giving us a preview of his imminent presentation to Euro-Python, Reuven Lerner the internationally well-known trainer and conference speaker will be 'beaming in' to discuss Pandas, PyArrow, and Data Science more generally. With the aid of his downloadable Jupyter Notebooks the theory topics will be augmented with practical coding.

Sessions:

1. .loc in Pandas (using labels to address elements of a tabular data-frame - sort of like using dict-keys instead of list-indices/indexes)

2. The PyArrow revolution in Pandas (faster and more capable data-types, and more)

Both are aimed at people with at least a little Pandas experience (but not necessarily a lot). People with a basic understanding should be able to follow what we're doing. The first talk will get a bit more complex 2/3 into it, but should still give a lot of useful info for everyone.

If you would like to code-along-at-home, please prepare a project (environment) and ensure that NumPy, Pandas, and PyArrow are installed.

Reuven is a full-time Python trainer, teaching at companies around the world, and also offering a variety of online courses for individuals. He wrote "Python Workout" and "Pandas Workout," both published by Manning. Reuven writes three newsletters: Better Developers (about Python and software engineering), Bamboo Weekly (using Pandas to analyze current events), and Trainer Weekly (about the corporate training business). Reuven lives with his wife and three children in Modi'in, Israel.
