VacExcHndlrs: pathlib vs os
Details
Is the os library superior to pathlib, or vice-versa?
You are invited to a mock debate comparing the two. Two experienced developers will use side-by-side code examples to illustrate and explore common file-system tasks, and invite your comments, questions, and advice.
- os is definitely the old-dog in this fight. It was part of Python 1.0 (1994).
- pathlib might seem like the young-pup, but was first introduced more than ten years ago (Python 3.4).
- Has it amassed its own set of tricks?
The objective is not to declare a 'winner'. Context matters! You will gather informed opinions about when and why you might choose one over the other.
You are welcome to attend. This meeting will suit all levels of skill from Python Beginners and 'up'. It will be run under the PyNZ Code of Conduct (https://python.nz/about/code-of-conduct/).
