We welcome Python enthusiasts of all skill levels. We'll be starting off with food and beverages at 5:30 pm, and talks begin at 6pm.
GIS + Python: What can Python do for your maps?

Making effective maps with the data you have often hinges on knowing what is possible rather than knowing how to do it. Join me for a quick tour of map-making with Python and discover some creative hacks:
- Generate, manipulate, and plot your GIS data.
- Learn what "CRS" and "WKT" stand for and why your points shifted 3 meters to the east.
- Get confused by the byzantine joys of GDAL and shapely.
- Consider giving up on coding and just do it in QGIS instead... which also comes with a handy Python API!

He has no formal training in GIS and is thus under-qualified to talk about GIS, but he has made a lot of maps for his employer in the past year and has spent a lot of time hacking his way through QGIS with a dusting of Python and GDAL where needed. NumPy 2.0: What Numerical Python Can Do and Why It Is the Backbone of AI

In Linear Algebra, we have explored matrices and their various applications. Numerical Python (NumPy) is a powerful library that addresses many of these questions, showcasing its capabilities in multiple domains including AI and Data Science. Let's delve into what NumPy offers by examining:
- Matrix Operations: Understanding stacking, broadcasting, arithmetic, and matrix operations.
- Data Science Applications: Utilizing NumPy for data storage, statistical analysis, and graph visualization.
- AI Applications: Performing mathematical operations on images, a crucial task in AI development.
- NumPy 2.0 Enhancements: Discovering the new features in NumPy 2.0 that make it faster and simpler to use.
Awais Nizamani is a joint PhD student working on AI to develop virtual humans that can interact naturally, collaborating with professors from UWA and Murdoch University and funded by the Australian Research Council. Previously, he contributed to a US-based AI company to develop real-time medical guidance systems for NASA's Mars mission. He has proficiency in Python and C++, with five years of experience in AI projects using PyTorch, Docker, and AWS tools. He is actively researching to create a better future in the upcoming AI revolution.
