Details

Welcome to our July Python WA meetup!
We welcome Python enthusiasts of all skill levels. We'll be starting off with food and beverages at 5:30 pm, with talks beginning at 6:00pm.

Building Your Unique Value-Add in an Artificially Transitioning Environment
by CP

This talk reframes how engineers, especially in DevOps, can rethink their value in a world rapidly shifting from code to coordination. Drawing on his 20+ years across banking, defense, and deep tech, CP will share why he learned Python—not to code, but to connect. He will unpack how object-oriented design mirrors agile, kaizen, and design thinking; how AI is not replacing engineers, but reimagining their role as a critical success factor; and why creativity, not just computation, is the differentiator in the next wave. If you’re still solving for efficiency, you’re behind. Solve for adaptability.

With 20 years steering high-stakes portfolios, CP has moved from the trading floors of Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, and HSBC to venture-building in Defence, Life Sciences, Shallow Tech, and mission-driven Social Enterprises—stretching across the USA, Europe, and APAC. That journey blends big-bank rigor, startup velocity, and cross-sector pattern-matching you can’t pick up from any single domain. Today, I’ll distill the frameworks I’ve tested in these environments so you can sharpen your own value add as engineers navigating an artificially transitioning world.

Open Source ETL
by Johan de Beurs

Join your fellow Python [data] practitioners to run through some memes, cry about shared pain and hope for a better future. We'll touch on some market-standard and up-and-coming OSS tools focusing on ETL and data ops that might just make things a little smoother for you, whether you're building an enterprise-ready data pipeline or accessing a weather api for a hobby project.

Johan is a seasoned data practitioner with more than 15 years' experience in generating returns from data investments. He runs Cruxdata, a data consulting firm serving SMEs and Startups. Cruxdata focuses on businesses between ~50-500 employees, where data management matures from one analyst with an excel spreadsheet to team(s), processes and underlying data infrastructure. We build data infrastructure and processes that scale gracefully with your growth, minimising costly rework as your data maturity grows.
