Theme:

After surviving 2 huge snowstorms in Winter, Spring is finally around the corner yaaay! Let's catch up our breaths, lay back, stretch our legs and relax to enjoy the warm weather and the beautiful nature. What are your Spring feelings, hopes, wishes and dreams? Let's read poetry about Spring, Nowruz, Irish-Americans or women.

We will enjoy an inclusive multicultural multilingual open mic poetry night. Newcomers, immigrants, refugees, indigenous🪶, 2SLGBTQIA+🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️, people with visible/ invisible disabilities, people with chronic deaseas/ pains, ADHD, Autism, mental health challenges, youth👩🏾👱, kids🧒🏽👧and seniors👵🏻👴🏿are all welcome😊

The feedback I got from previous performers that it is a safe, non-judgmental and friendly space to share your talents.

Cover cost:

$7 to $10 cash at the door to support this initiative

Structure:

We will start reading poetry at 6 pm. We will have a break at 7:30 pm to order dinner and socialize. If you want to order dinner before 7:30 pm, it is better to wait downstairs for 20 minutes until you pick up your order. We don't want to be disturbed while reading by the small alarm devices of the food ready orders. Thanks!

There is no order for the open mic. It is a popcorn style! Whenever you feel inspired and ready to perform just raise your hand when I ask who wants to perform. Don't worry, I will keep asking who wants to perform all the night. No pressure, just go with the flow.

Every performer is allowed for 3 to 5 minutes only. If there is still more time, we will go for a 2nd and a 3rd round😉

You can perform arts such as spoken word, slam, rap, singing, playing music, stand up comedy, storytelling, acting or showing visual art.

You can read in any language and it is always good to have English translation or summary of your poetry to read it too or to hand it out to the audience.

In the past poetry nights, people read and sang in different languages such as Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Urdu, Punjabi, Tagalog, Irish, Turkish, Persian and other African languages.

If you don't want to read about the theme, it is OK. You can read about anything you like. If you want to read poetry written by other famous poets, it is OK just give them credits by mentioning their names. If you don't want to read, it is OK, you can relax and enjoy others performance.

Venue:

NAAN KABOB

We will be upstairs in the Tea Ceremony room. See the 2nd picture. Unfortunately, it is not wheelchair accessible to go upstairs🚫♿️ The resturant serves delicious Afghani cuisine with big portions and reasonable prices for dinner. It has vegan options too.

"Inspired by childhood memories and influenced by exotic spices. Naan & Kabob is a family dream of a new home away from home. The family who followed the footsteps of the spice route merchants on a journey of a lifetime from Afghanistan in the East to Canada in the West, through India and few other countries. An enriching journey that set sail to the unknown and landed at Naan & Kabob. In the light of this lifetime journey of the family and the enduring legacy of the spice route, Naan & Kabob was born to take you on a quest that's never short of thrill and mystery of the East and modern setting of the West. The family created Naan & Kabob with a vision to become a hub that connects civilizations through delicious food!"

I wonder if anyone has a mic or 2 with speakers, please bring them with you. The venue doesn't have their own. Thanks!

I hope to see you all.
