The Sun Is Also a Star (2016) is a young adult novel by Nicola Yoon. Natasha, a Jamaican-American girl facing deportation, and Daniel, a Korean-American aspiring poet, fall in love over the course of a single day in New York City. The story, told in alternating perspectives and including vignettes from other characters, explores themes of fate, love, identity, and the interconnectedness of people, all while Natasha tries to prevent her family's deportation.

Reasons for Challenges/Bans:
* The Sun Is Also a Star has been banned or challenged in several US school districts, including in Virginia, Missouri, and South Dakota, due to its mature themes. The book has also faced challenges in Colorado's Elizabeth School District and in Iowa.
* Included in a list of over 700 books removed from classrooms in Orange County, Florida in 2024 due to fears they violate the state’s new laws banning materials with “sexual conduct” from schools.
* Reasons cited for removing or challenging the book include themes of immigration, romance, and accusations of containing profanity or explicit sexual content.
