From 1953 until 1981, a silver haired woman calling herself only "Peace Pilgrim" walked more than 25,000 miles on a personal pilgrimage for peace. Wearing a blue tunic and carrying just a few worldly possessions in her pockets, she shared her simple but profound message in thousands of communities throughout the U.S.: “when enough of us find inner peace, our institutions will become peaceful and there will be no more occasion for war.”
Today, her words – captured in books, videos and other media – continue to inspire people around the world.
Join in a presentation and discussion of this remarkable woman, who grew up in Egg Harbor City, NJ. Learn more about her early years, her 15 year preparation, her 28-year pilgrimage and the continuing impact her words have had since her “glorious transition to a freer life”.
Presenter Merry Brennan has enjoyed a varied life as a journalist, activist, artist, columnist, communications consultant, adjunct professor and elected official. She is the author of the biographical novel, Peace Pilgrim: walking her talk against hate and, most recently, Eye Rolls & Awe: A National Park Road Trip with Teens. Her photographic and digital creations have been featured in many shows and publications, and can be seen at www.EarthwaysArt.com. The long-time Jersey Shore resident is always up for a good hike, sail or paddle; never turns down time with family; and looks forward to full moon meditations.
