What does it mean when we say that quantum computers will be able to solve certain problems that classical computers cannot? What makes quantum so special?

The goal of this session is to provide an intuitive understanding of how quantum computers work, no math needed – promise! This won’t make quantum “weirdness” go away, but it will become more familiar.

Topics:

  • What is a qubit (quantum bit)?
  • Superposition and entanglement (the special sauce)
  • What makes quantum computers so hard to build?
  • Quantum software
  • Use case: turbocharging drug discovery
  • Resources for further exploration

Agenda
6:30pm – Pizza and Networking
7:00pm – Quantum Computing 101, Don Grust
7:45pm – Q&A, Wrap-Up, Networking

Don Grust is one of the organizers of this meetup and the Managing Director of QuantumToMarket, an advisory firm that helps quantum companies commercialize their technology.

And FYI, it is the International Year of Quantum!

Many thanks to the Princeton Public Library for co-sponsoring our event!!
