2025 is the [International Year of Quantum](https://quantum2025.org/), celebrating 100 years since the initial development of quantum mechanics. To honor this moment, two of New Jersey's quantum leaders, the iconic Nokia Bell Labs and Hoboken and Stevens' own Quantum Computing, Inc, will join our meetup to discuss their quantum activities, followed by a panel discussion to explore the opportunity to grow the New Jersey quantum ecosystem.

**[Just added]** A New Jersey high school student who wrote a quantum ebook for high-schoolers and is on a mission to spread quantum education at the high school level.

A brief update on the latest news from the quantum industry.

**Nokia Bell Labs**
[Nokia Bell Labs ](https://www.nokia.com/bell-labs/)needs little introduction. Nokia has been a great steward of our beloved Bell Labs, where they carry forward their legacy of world-leading research, Nobel Prizes and Turing Awards. Nokia Bell Labs led the way for Quantum 1.0 with inventions such as the transistor, the solar cell and quantum dots. Today, they continue at the forefront of Quantum 2.0, with research targeting future applications of quantum computers, networks, security and sensors.

Tod Sizer will discuss Nokia Bell Labs' quantum activities, with a focus on (i) the role of quantum information security, especially quantum key distribution and it’s opportunities and limits; (ii) quantum communications as a natural evolution from the Classical Communications described by Claude Shannon some 70+ years ago; and (iii) how we can engage and collaborate here in the Garden State.

[Dr. Theodore (Tod) Sizer ](https://www.linkedin.com/in/todsizer/)leads the Optical System and Device Research Lab in Nokia Bell Labs, leading teams innovating in all aspects of optical systems and devices for access, core, submarine, satellite, and data center communications. Prior to his current role, Tod led Wireless Research in Nokia Bell Labs where he drove the vision and research of 5G. Tod graduated from Amherst College and received his Masters and Doctorate in Optics from the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. In 2012 he received the Popular Science Breakthrough Innovation award for the lightRadio invention. Tod is a Fellow of Bell Labs, WWRF, and IEEE. He is the author of 55 US patents and a member of the IEEE and Optica.

Tod is also Board Director of PhotonicsNJ and Co-Principal Investigator for Advancing Photonics Technologies consortium, which is an NSF Engine Semifinalist that is working to bring up to $160M to support the NJ-PA-Del photonics industry.

**Quantum Computing, Inc.**
[Quantum Computing Inc.](https://quantumcomputinginc.com/) is an innovative, integrated photonics company that provides accessible and affordable quantum machines to the world today. QCi products operate at room temperature and with low power at an affordable cost. The Company’s portfolio of core technology and products offer unique capabilities in the areas of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, cyber security and remote sensing applications.

QCi is an exciting NJ story, a public company (QUBT) spun out of NJ's very own Stevens Institute of Technology. Milan will discuss their backstory and provide an overview of their business model, products, use cases and technology.

[Dr. Milan Begliarbekov ](https://www.linkedin.com/in/milan-begliarbekov-33aaa77a/)is the COO of Quantum Computing Inc, responsible for manufacturing and all other QCi operations. Prior to becoming COO, Dr. Begliarbekov was the Director of QCi Foundry, responsible for overseeing the development and commercialization of quantum materials, devices, and technologies including thin-film niobate and transition metal ferroelectrics for advanced sensing and photonic computing applications. With more than 17 years of experience in nanofabrication, materials science, and scientific leadership, Dr. Begliarbekov also served as a Research Assistant Professor and Director of the Nanofabrication Facility at the City University of New York (CUNY), where he managed the design, commissioning, and operation of one of the region’s leading nanofabrication centers.

Dr. Begliarbekov is also passionate about STEM outreach in particular to underrepresented populations. Throughout his career, Dr. Becliarbekov taught numerous STEM corses, particularly in community colleges. He also developed numerous curricula for graduate and undergraduate courses.

**[Arnav Janeesh](https://www.linkedin.com/in/arnav-janeesh-a33666327/)**, **Robbinsville High School, Senior**
Arnav is passionate about quantum and wrote an [ebook ](https://quantedu.carrd.co/)to help teach quantum to high school students. He will talk about his main motivation, which is to spread quantum education at the high school level. He will also talk about his ebook and the initiatives he is undertaking to achieve his goal.
