Welcome to the Queens Board Games meetup group. This group is for those who live in Queens County along with surrounding sections of the New York metro area who are interested in board gaming.
Note: Currently, there are multiple sections within this group which meet at various locations. Please be sure to RSVP for the correct section.
VENUE AND TIME ALLOTTED
Please note: This section is part of a TESTING PHASE and is intended to take place once a month on a Saturday at Ben's Deli from 2 to 8:30 PM (for the time being).
Ben's Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant is located in the Bay Terrace Shopping Center (in between Foot Locker and The Monster Crab Cajun seafood restaurant) in Bayside, Queens.
For those who drive, there is ample parking in the shopping center. For those commuting by bus, the Q13, 28, and 31 bus lines stop nearby.
Members arrive and leave at various times, therefore there is no obligation to stay for the entire time allotted.
PROTOCOL
Please note: The venue has indicated it has the right to OVERRIDE our original reservation if a larger group books the room afterwards. Therefore, events at this venue will be labeled “TENTATIVE” in the heading above.
The venue has indicated that attendees can order from the takeout section of the restaurant, bring their food to the Party Room, and clean up after themselves. In addition, a room fee of $40 will be assessed to be split amongst attendees.
WHAT TO EXPECT
If you're looking for a fun and friendly group of people to play a variety of games with, join us for a Saturday meetup at Ben's Deli.
Newcomers are always welcome! Growing up, most of us played children's games (ex: Candyland, Sorry, Connect Four) and classic games (ex: Checkers, Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly). Gaming has truly evolved since then, with an increase in volume of games/categories created along with an increase in complexity and sophistication of rules and strategies. These "modern games" involve a whole other world that you may never heard of, however there will be others who will bring these games and teach you (see list below - you can also go to YouTube to preview and familiarize yourself).

Gateway games – Rummikub, Splendor, Qwirkle, Century Spice Road
Card games – Five Crowns, SKYJO, Phase 10, Flip 7, The Game, Parade, Port Royal, The Gang
Word games - So Clover, Blank Slate, Just One, Sides, One Round, Jibber Jabble, Quiddler
Introductory strategy games - Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne
Light strategy games - Stone Age, Istanbul, Acquire
Medium/heavier strategy games – The Castles of Burgundy, Orleans, Rajas of the Ganges, Terraforming Mars
Bringing your own games is not mandatory, however if you possess any, feel free to bring them as there are always people looking to learn something new or to find a new favorite board game.
