Sunday Gaming at Mangia Bene Ristorante - Great Neck UPDATE)
Details
Welcome to the Queens Board Games meetup group. This group is for those who live in Queens County along with surrounding sections of the New York metro area who are interested in board gaming.
Note: Currently, there are multiple sections within this group which meet at various venues. Please be sure to RSVP for the correct section.
VENUE AND TIME ALLOTTED
This section meets at Mangia Bene Ristorante from 2 to 9 PM.
Mangia Bene Ristorante is an Italian restaurant located at 624 Middle Neck Road in Great Neck, Nassau County.
For those who drive, please park in the municipal parking lot located diagonally across the street from the venue (the street parking in front of the venue is for 90 minutes only and applies to Sundays as well). For those commuting by bus, the N58 bus line stops nearby.
Members arrive and leave at various times, therefore there is no obligation to stay for the entire time allotted.
PROTOCOL
This venue is a place of business willing to accommodate our group. The minimum spending requirement is $25. If attendees spend less than this amount, the staff will automatically charge $25. Attendees can place an order at the counter and the staff will bring the food to the dining area. Upon leaving, attendees can resolve their bill with the staff at the counter. In addition, a FLAT $5 tip/fee will be added to all attendees’ bills.
WHAT TO EXPECT
If you're looking for a fun and friendly group of people to play a variety of games with, join us for a Sunday meetup at Mangia Bene Ristorante.
Newcomers are always welcome! Growing up, most of us played children's games (ex: Candyland, Sorry, Connect Four) and classic games (ex: Checkers, Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly). Gaming has truly evolved since then, with an increase in volume of games/categories created along with an increase in complexity and sophistication of rules and strategies. These "modern games" involve a whole other world that you may never heard of, however there will be others who will bring these games and teach you (see list below - you can also go to YouTube to preview and familiarize yourself).
Examples of games played
Gateway games – Rummikub, Splendor, Qwirkle, Century Spice Road
Card games – Five Crowns, SKYJO, Phase 10, Flip 7, The Game, Parade, Port Royal, The Gang
Word games - So Clover, Blank Slate, Just One, Sides, One Round, Jibber Jabble, Quiddler
Introductory strategy games - Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne
Light strategy games - Stone Age, Istanbul, Acquire
Medium/heavier strategy games – The Castles of Burgundy, Orleans, Rajas of the Ganges, Terraforming Mars
Bringing your own games is not mandatory, however if you possess any, feel free to bring them as there are always people looking to learn something new or to find a new favorite board game.
Also, please feel free to post in the Comments section regarding which games are being brought and would like to be played.
