Alley Pond Mushroom Walk
Details
We will be exploring Alley Pond Park on a guided 2 hour walk. I will talk about the trees and herbaceous plants that grow in these beautiful woods. We will also learn to identify mushrooms and fungi that we come across, and we'll discuss the role they play in this forest ecosystem.
After the recent rain, more mushrooms are starting to come up, including Amanitas, Russulas and even some Boletes (see the photo of the cool blue-staining bolete, Cyanoboletus cyaneitinctus, I saw in Alley Pond Park on July 11th).
We will probably see the Wood thrushes, with their brown speckled bellies, and we'll most definitely hear their ethereal, metallic songs!
If you are curious about the creatures and the trees and the plants and fungi that live in Alley Pond Park, I'd love to see you join me on this walk!
In addition to Saturday morning, I am holding a walk on Friday evening 5 - 7pm, as well.
Bring water to keep yourself hydrated.
The cost of the walk is $25/adult. Children under 18 yrs are free. I accept cash, Venmo and Zelle.
