Bites & Bytes with SJ and Carl Jokl
Details
Here’s another of our semi-regular Bites & Bytes evenings, with food, socialising, and two great talks. We’re off to the Puppet offices this time, and they will also be providing food for the evening.
Food (free of charge) will be available from 6pm, and talks begin at 6:30pm.
SJ will speak on Ethics in software: what type of world are we helping to build?
Software is running most of the world's infrastructure and is gradually superseding human decision makers everywhere from banking to transport. What role are software developers playing in making the world a worse place to live? In this talk, we'll be looking at software developer ethics, some examples of the situation we're finding ourselves in and opening the question of improving the situation.
Carl Jokl will speak on Software safety in critical systems.
This talk will cover lessons learned from high profile failures in software in critical systems, and techniques that could mitigate such events in future.
Bio: Carl Jokl is an associate of the London Java Community, and represents them on an international working group focused on mobile/embedded technology. He is interested in mobile/embedded and educational technology, and currently works in software QA for a bank.
Accessibility: There is full step-free access via a lift.

If you're new to the group: we know it can be difficult to join a new social group, so we offer a Buddy Scheme to make it easier. We arrange to have one of our team meet you before the meetup starts, and to help introduce you to the group. For more info, see our Buddy Scheme page (https://github.com/qcldn/docs/blob/master/buddy.md).
