For this edition of Day DJ, Leila Szabo brings hyperpop to Villa Vida Café.
Hyperpop is known for pushing pop and electronic music beyond their usual boundaries. It can be bright, distorted, playful, chaotic, melodic, bass-heavy, or all of those things within the same track.

What Is Day DJ at Villa Vida?
Day DJ at Villa Vida Café is a regular series that gives local DJs space to share their sound in a daytime setting.
The series focuses on new talent, experimentation, and community. Rather than putting DJs exclusively into a late-night club environment, Day DJ creates an accessible daytime space where artists can build sets, explore ideas, and connect with an audience.
At the same time, the format is deliberately relaxed. You can come specifically for the music, meet friends for a drink, work from the café, or stay for the entire set. There is no pressure to dance, although you are certainly welcome to.

DJs, Queer Culture and Community
DJs have played an important role in queer culture and nightlife. Historically, queer communities have used music and dance spaces to gather, express themselves, and build community.
Moreover, many forms of contemporary dance and club culture have deep roots in queer communities, particularly Black and Latinx queer scenes.
Day DJ continues this connection between music and community on a smaller, daytime scale. By creating space for emerging and local DJs, the series encourages experimentation while giving people another way to connect through music.
