Our May 2025 book pick is These Letters End in Tears by Musih Tedji Xaviere (fiction, 240 pages). In this debut novel, a Cameroonian lesbian contends with her sexuality, her past and the confines of her home.

Bessem lost and/or lost touch with her girlfriend Fatima 13 years ago. Now Bessem writes letters she never sends to a lover whose whereabouts she has no idea of. The book is described as a smart, finely detailed books that contents with sexuality, homophobia, traditional gender roles, and legacy of colonialism in West Africa.

Social half-hour starts at 6:30 and the book discussion starts around 7:00. We will be inside in the usual room - the tasting room. It's inside, past the bar, up the stairs, left through the door, and past the restrooms. Ask at the bar for directions. Second Line should have a food truck/ vendor out there or you can bring your own.
