Meeting time: 10:30 AM.

6.5 mile walk - we set off from the Greenwich Foot tunnel entrance by Cutty Sark, cross the river vis the foot tunnel, explore doclands mostly following the river before we arrive at the Trinity Buoy Wharf - home to the only light house in London which houses Longplayer (a very long piece of music by British composer and musician Jem Finer which is composed to play for 1000 years without looping. It started to play at midnight on 1 January 2000, and if all goes as planned, it will continue without repetition until 31 December 2999) We stop to enjoy the eternal music of Longplayer before making our way to the Emirates cablecar station (ref to TfL page for the cost of the journey & method of payment etc.,) and dangle ourway across the river to O2 where our walk ends.

Things that I usually consider for my walks:

  • Food and drink to get through the walk.
  • Water: Aleast two litres.
  • Day rucksack: That is comfortable to wear and allows free arm movements.
  • Walking Boots: waterproof and breathable. trainers are OK if the ground is dry.
  • Gaiters: recommended for wet weather conditions.
  • Socks: proper walking socks to keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters.
  • Layered clothing: helps to quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. A base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather additional outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
  • Trousers: Ideally no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry and on warm days shorts are OK.
  • Waterproof jacket: An essential in wet weather.
  • Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer
  • Sunglasses: Essential for any summer walk
  • Sun cream: when the weather dictates.
