Meeting time: 10:30 AM.

We will gather by the entrance to the Woolwich Elizabeth Line station and head South towards Shooter Hill where we aim to arrive in approx 3.5hrs covering approx 6.5 miles.

We will be passing through some historic buildings before arriving at Oxleas woods. Oxleas Wood is one of the few remaining areas of ancient deciduous forest in Eltham in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Some parts date back over 8,000 years to the end of the last ice age. We will also walk past the Severndroog Castle, a folly, located in the woods.
Plan is to grab a drink or more at the wonderful Oxleas wood cafe situated at an elevation known for its panaromic rolling views of South London and beyond. The walk ends here.
There are near by bus stations - buses heading to & from different tube/train stations.
Please note: This walk involves conquring a few elevations!

Things that I usually consider for my walks:

  • Food and drink to get through the walk.
  • Water: Aleast two litres.
  • Day rucksack: That is comfortable to wear and allows free arm movements.
  • Walking Boots: waterproof and breathable. trainers are OK if the ground is dry.
  • Gaiters: recommended for wet weather conditions.
  • Socks: proper walking socks to keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters.
  • Layered clothing: helps to quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. A base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather additional outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece)
  • Trousers: Ideally no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry and on warm days shorts are OK.
  • Waterproof jacket: An essential in wet weather.
  • Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer
  • Sunglasses: Essential for any summer walk
  • Sun cream: when the weather dictates.
