Interpersonal and Community Responses to Harm
Let's read the internet! This month, we're going to do things a little differently... instead of reading a book or reading one author, we will share and read articles on a theme. Folks will come to the meeting not necessarily having read the same stuff, but we'll share what we've read as we discuss the topic of interpersonal and community responses to harm. Think: trigger warnings, "shunning," calling out or calling in, the labels of "violence" or "abuse," restorative justice, or other forms of conflict resolution. These are contentious topics with no easy answers. The hope is that we can examine divergent perspectives from thinkers and writers who share the goals of interacting ethically and working for justice. A few links are included below to get you started, but PLEASE share an additional article on our Facebook page if you have one in mind! Search for "Bay Area Queer Theory Book Group" on Facebook. See you in June. "Excommunicate me from the church of social justice": and Roxane Gay talks about trigger warnings: Campus activism at liberal arts colleges (please forgive my narcissism on this one):

    What we're about

Are you a queer theory nerd? Let's meet up to read and talk about queer theory, drink wine/coffee/kombucha/beverage of your choice and meet new friends. All genders and sexualities welcome. Meetings are usually in the East Bay but sometimes in SF; we're always looking for location suggestions so don't be shy to email Ian! We also have a Facebook group if you prefer to interact with us that way (events are posted at the same time to both groups):
